Guitar Player: Kurt Cobain. Died April 5th, 1994

Another guitar player and musician who died at age 27 was Kurt Cobain. It seems like a lot of great guitar players who were not Jimi Hendrix or Robert Johnson and musicians died at age 27. I don’t think this was due to a visit to the crossroads, this is a brief synopsis of what the police speculated may have happened.

Cobain, the lead singer and guitar player of grunge band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, Kurt Donald Cobain, born February 20, 1967, died April 5, 1994, height 5′ 7″, weight 130 lbs. Cobain was found dead by an electrician who had come to install a security system. There was little blood, apart from some coming from the ear; a suicide note was found. This discovery was made on the 10th of April, the coroner put the day of death at 5 days previous. The official verdict given was death by self-inflicted gunshot wound. Suicide.

Or was there more to it than that? Speculation has always been rife that perhaps Cobain was murdered. The evidence is there, albeit circumstantial. The amount of heroin in his blood could have left him unable to pull the trigger, not enough heroin to kill him but enough to sedate him enough for someone else to pull the trigger. The suicide note itself has a paragraph at the end, where the handwriting may well have been different. An attempt at copying Cobain’s writing perhaps. According to his wife Courtney Love, Cobain always claimed he wanted to join the ‘Club 27′ (the group of musicians that died age 27).

One thing for sure though is that Cobain was dead, another guitarist and singer dead at the age of 27. What is your take on this? Enjoy..

  1. Oddly enough I woke up singing, six strings down this morning to see this post here. I wonder, those candles that burn twice as bright, they truly burn half as long.

Do they get pushed to it, or is it already marked out in their life’s plan? Comin up on 19 years with out Stevie, and I can only imagine the great things he would have done? Or would he have? Is that all they had for us and we were blessed to have them for such a short time? Remembering them as they were?

  2. All good questions. I remember what SRV and Jimi and the others gave us, and dream about what could have happened. I’m grateful they graced the world in the first place.

  3. By the time these guys would have been my age, they would’ve been dead for years. What’s my excuse?! 🙂

  4. you really painting a freaky picture of the “curse of 27″….
